Whenever Virgo is well placed in the southern sky I always try and tick
a few more objects off my observing list.

I noticed an interesting group of galaxies as I was checking my charts,
and I marked them down for observation.
I was most impressed when I finally managed to get them in the eyepiece
of the 56cm dob.

It is quite a rare treat to have so many bright galaxies gathered
together in the one field.

I have included a duplicate reference sketch with details.
Hopefully I have got all the designations correct.

  1. Scott,

An impressive sketch of a collection of fine galaxies.
I wonder if there is anyone out there sketching our milky way galaxy?

    Frank 🙂

  2. Thanks Frank.

A Milky Way naked eye panorama sketch with detail and accuracy would be a daunting challenge indeed.

    Scott.

  3. Scott,

I meant out there in one of those 6 galaxies looking back at us.
A rhetorical question and weak attempt at humor I’m afraid. Sorry.

    Frank 🙂

  4. Scott,

So many galaxies, so many stars in galaxies, so beautiful sketch!

    Thanks.

    Thanks.

Frank- even if there was just one intelligent civilization in a galaxy out of every six, there would be millions out there.

The drawback is that we will never know they are there.

    Scott.
