Hi all,

On October 12th good weather allowed me to see the rare triple shadow transit on Jupiter, and in addition seeing was excellent. Callisto’s shadow was big and somewhat fuzzy, near the south pole, while Io’s and Europa’s were tiny and sharp, at both sides of the SEB. It was very interesting to see all three shadows move across the planet for one hour! The sketch corresponds approximately to the middle of the event.

Hey ASOD- friends!

This is a sketch of the famous comet P/ Halley.
The comet showed some structures in the circular coma (jets), and
it was interesting to see an occultation of the nearby star to west by
the centralcondensation later!
In january 1986, comet Halley got a 2 deg. long tail and was a
fine object in binos and telescopes from Norway.
I found Halley early (8. oct.- 85), and followed it carefully all the way
on northern sky and from Tenerife in apr. – 86.
At this time I was leader of the comet- section in Norway.
The sketch was made with graphite (pencil) on white paper (inverted).

Moon in corona and Jupiter in Conjunction (14-04-2013)

The lunar light diffracted by water drops, gave a beautifull spectacle of colored ring around the Moon just – like an aureole ! Near shone the the largest planet in the Solar System with his four Galilean moons!

Jupiter and Moons were also in small halos 😉

It was remarkable and unforgettable conjunction!

Hey Artists!

My sketch here, shows the famous comet Halley as seen at its best from Norway.
The bright coma had a drop-form, and a halo was seen in the outer coma to west.
In my 10 x 50 binos, the tail was narrow and 2 deg. long. Info on my sketch.
Halley returns in 2061, so good luck to the younger observers!
I used colour crayons on black paper.

Planetary conjunction at dawn: Mars in The Beehive (M44)

Graphite drawing on white paper (inverted Ps).
Binocular 12×80 (4,2º) at 4:30 UT (height of Mars 21º over horizon)

Mars is within the cluster and framed by the four stars of
Cancer (Asellus Borealis, Asellus Australis, 31 Cnc and 33 Cnc). Its colour was bright orange between blue and white stars.

Hello all sketchers,
here is my sketch of very nice planet actual on the evening sky – Venus.
Last Saturday was very inspirating for me, so I decided to observe Venus in the evening. Seeing was not very good – 5/10 and it was windy. But i saw some atmospheric detail on Venus how you can see. It was very dificult but I made it!
I used my 8″ dobson with magnifications 150x and 200x and Celestron planetary filter – #15 (yellow).
At first I used OIII Astronomik filter but Venus was not so bright and filter killed all details …

Hi, my dear friends. One year later I am back with a Saturn sketch.
I made this sketch in April this year, but only now I found some time to scan and submit it. I hope you astronomers and enthusiasts enjoy.

No clouds, no Moon and no wind. The night would be perfect, wasn’t by the seeing (Ant. 2) and the city lights (NELM 4.0). I decided to observe from my backyard instead of moving all the equipment to the farm.
Despite the limitations, the favorable position of the giant planet revealed several typical features, like Cassini Division, rings’ and globe’s shadows on each other and five of its numerous moons. C-Ring was not visible.
The five visible moons were Japetus, Rhea, Tethys, Dione and Titan.

Hello friends of the dark side,

after only a few good nights since November, I could say that this winter is really terrible for hobby astronomers in Germany. Yesterday it was my sixth night under clear sky. The temperatures and the cold wind do not just stop. The forecast say, that the sky should be covered by the end of next week and so, this Jupiter is probably the last for me in this season.
In a few weeks he is already too low on the horizon. Then Saturn is the object of the night.

I used my 115/805 TMB Apo (No. 83) and enlarged from 130x to 200x. Towards the end I could even observe the gas-giant with the 3.5 mm eyepiece (230x).
The air was very quiet and many fine details were visible. I hope you enjoy the sketch of our biggest neighbour in solar-system.

It was a great feeling, to catch all these particulars.
