This was my first time seeing a transit in the Jovian system….
The bands came a little tilted in the first sketch due to change in observing orientation…..

Hello,
After à rainy and mainly cloudy winter ( just some clear nights with poor seeing …) last sunday before the dawn I get some reasonably average condition to observe Mars and to try my first drawing of the 2014 opposition, inspite the small diamètre (10.9″)
Hope many others will follow Emoji and perhaps if best condition occurs with my 22″ dobson
This time I send again a sketch of the unforgetable great comet Hale-Bopp!
The observation was made the time before the fine spiral-bows appeared.
There was a bay of almost dark sky between the two tails.
C/ Hale-Bopp was the finest comet I have seen, and longlasting on the northern sky,
with many fine structures to observe in the inner coma.
I used color-crayons on black paper. Info on my sketch.
Location: Trondheim, Norway.
This year I celebrate 50 years as an amateur-astronomer (65 years old),
and have 330 sketches total!
Thank you for your comments and HAPPY NEW YEAR
from Per-Jonny Bremseth.
Orientation: eyepiece view, no image flipping
Conditions: Lot of humidity, 3°C, no wind.
Equipment:
– Dobson Orion XT12 (305 x 1500mm => F/D 5)
– Eyepiece Panoptic 15mm + barlow x 3 Televue (mag x 300)
After a heavy rain, the sky suddenly went cristal clear. So I took my Dobson to a dark lane.
After having a long M82 supernova contemplation, I payed attention to Jupiter.
Its moons were in a rare configuration: all on the same side, but forming a trapeze instead of a line.
From left to right: Io, Callisto, Ganymede, Europa.
I was surprised by the amazing sky quality, seeing perfectly the Great Red Spot and some detail on tropical strips.
I saw an unusual white wave on the right side of the GRS I wanted to keep in memory by doing this sketch.
I could not establish if it was a continuous stream (as I draw it) or a suite of white storm clouds.
I did not find recent picture of Jupiter to confirm.
If somebody observed this, or made a picture at the same period, thanks for leaving a comment.
Thanks for your interest.

Object name: Venus
Object Type: Planet
Location: Lochem, The Netherlands.
Date: january 12th, 2014
Media: The sketch was created using Photoshop Elements 6.
Comments:
Sunday in the afternoon I got the chance to find Venus 5 degrees above the sun!
The planet was visible as a small white arc.
I used a 8” Dobsonian telescope equipped with a 27 mm Panoptic eyepiece, that yielded 50x.
Location: Lochem, The Netherlands.
After a few minutes I switched to the 10 mm Delos, 135x.
Then I observed and waited for moments of relatively calm air.
These moments came and on then I was sure that the arc closed completely around the disk.
Adding to that I was also convinced that I saw the famous “Ashen Light”.
A controversial effect because how can the backside of Venus be visible in a daylight sky?.
This time I send a sketch of comet LOVEJOY from todays morning.
The observation was made with 166x magn. on my telescope.
The comet is a really nice one with both binos and telescope!
Info on my sketch.
I used graphite pencil on white paper and inverted in color.
Location : Trondheim, Norway.
