Eye of the Monster

Omega Centauri
Omega Centauri

Hello all,

The atmosphere appears to be finally drying out here on the east coast of Australia. Viewing from near home on the 24th of April, DSO’s were noticeably easier to see and make out detail in. The clearest for a very long time.

Thought I’d tackle a Monster too. This one’s been taunting me for some time. Teasing through the mushy viewing during the last year. It’s “Eye” staring back in defiance.

Here is my shot at Omega Centauri using my 17.5″. So mind numbingly complex in structure. It’s core shows it’s “eye” looking back, which is washed out in long exposure photos. This is Omega’s most outstanding signature feature.

The Pleiades

The Pleiades
The Pleiades

Object: M 45 –, The Pleijades
Object Type: Open Cluster
Berlin, Germany on Jan, 26th, 2012
Media: pencil on white paper, inverted

I have taken this sketch during a very cold night with about -20°C. Due to the coldness the sky over the city of Berlin has been clear and transparent.
As a scope I have used my tiny newly built 60/150mm-Refractor with a 12.5 mm Ploessl-eyepiece. The magnification has been about 12x and so I have been able to get the whole object with one view.

Messier 42 - Inverted

Dear Asod,

I send you here my sketch about M42 and NGC1981.
The Orion Nebula was one of the first things I have ever sketched and observed and this is still one of my favourites. When observing it in a full view NGC1981 is visible within the same FoV, a small but nicely shaping open cluster. I thought I will leave out the FoV and just sketch as it is, so the whole drawing in length is approximately 2°.
Equipment used: 130/650 SW, 26x
Media: graphite pencil on white paper (Photoshop to invert)
Observing date: 25th January 2012, UT: 22:30
Place: Hungary, Budapest

Clear skies,

Vesta and the Hyades

Vesta and The Hyades

Hey Artists!

Yes, this is a real old, restaurated sketch from the good old days, but it shows asteroid Vestas
movement across the beautiful Hyade star cluster over a observation time of 17 days.
I have org. 11 observations of Vestas positions, but 4 on this sketch. Info on the sketch.
I used pen and pencil on white paper (inverted).
Location: Trondheim, Norway.
I hope you like it!

Best wishes from : Per-Jonny Bremseth.

The Seven Sisters

The Pleiades
The Pleiades

Hello.

This is my first sketch presented on ASOD.
Last night I got a clear sky and I started off by looking at one of my favorite objects: M45. The sky was very clear and I was surprised to see a small hint of nebulosity near Merope but it was really faint, almost invisible.
The Seven Sisters plus ofc Atlas and Pleione were shining with a bright light which I tried to mark on my sketch.
I used a 150/1200 Dob , 25mm Plossl Eyepiece, x48 mag (I spread the sketch in two fields, in order to get all the detail.)

Object Name : Messier 45, Pleiades
Object Type : open star cluster
Location : Marosvásárhely, Romania.
Date : 2012.01.21.
Media : graphite pencil on white paper – digitally inverted and enchanced (Autodesk SketchBook).

Clear skies,
Csenteri Ildikó
