Partial Solar Eclipse – August 1, 2008

Partial Solar Eclipse - August 1, 2008
Partial Solar Eclipse - August 1, 2008

Hey, I send my drawing of a solar eclipse in August 2008. Eclipse was seen in Poland as a partial. In some parts of the world, it was complete. Since we have completed four years of this beautiful phenomenon, I want to bring these beautiful memories. Although the phase of maximum eclipse in Poland amounted to only about 40% of it was my najpiękniesze of solar eclipses. In Poland Psary eclipse started at 10:55, then there was a phase maximum at 11:49 and at 12:43 finally eclipse ended.
Hours are given during the summer in Poland. Despite the lapse of four years, still treasure the unforgettable moments for which I thank God.
Thanks and best regards

Astronomy Camp – Daylight Moon

Lunar Projection Sketch
Lunar Projection Sketch

The L.C. Bates Museum in Hinckley, Maine received a NASA SOI (Summer of Inquiry) Grant this summer, and astronomy camp was held this past week. Twelve campers, age eight to twelve, observed the sun’s photosphere (whitelight) and chromosphere (h-alpha), put together a Gallileoscope, flew a 5′ tall Montgolfier-inspired hot-air balloon, constructed Alexander-Graham-Bell-type tetrahedron-cell kites (flying machines), learned how to measure a celestial object’s altitude and azimuth, and made the attached drawing after a daytime observation of our moon. The sketch was made from a projected image of our daylight observation.

Lunar Terminator: Mare Spumans and Mare Undarum

Mare Spumans and Mare Undarum
Mare Spumans and Mare Undarum

On this evening, two days past full moon and with favorable libration on the eastern portion of the Moon, I chose two irregular maria targets for sketching. Mare Spumans was completely visible while Mare Undarum was only partly exposed beyond the terminator.

Although I have examined these little ancient “lakes” in the past this has been my first attempt to capture them on paper. Both are surrounded by bright, densely cratered upland and are close enough to Mare Crisium to be within its eject blanket and basin rings.

This is a very attractive region of the Moon for sketchers with craters Langrenus and Messier and Messier A nearby and Mare Crisium just to the north. I purposely kept these features out of my view to focus on lesser observed targets. In addition to the maria subjects, craters : Webb (22 km.), Apollonius (53 km.), and Firmicus (56 km.) provided eye catching targets across the view.

Sketching:

For this sketch I used: black Strathmore 400 Artagain paper 9″x 12″, white and black Conte’ pastel pencils and a blending stump. After scanning, Brightness was decreased just slightly using my scanner.

Mountains Cabeus on the Lunar horizon

Cabeus Crater Central Peaks
Cabeus Crater Central Peaks

Yesterday, I observed / sketched the two mountains that seems to be the central peaks in the bottom of Cabeus or environs on the soutern lunar horizon.

When the moon approaches near full lunar phase, some mountains , peaks are always seen very prominently on the southern lunar limb .

And I also have a suspect that why the most advanced lunar photograpers do not attempt to capture these pretty scenes as a form of a wide magnifyed photo

Archimedes

Archimedes Crater
Archimedes Crater

Hello,

yesterday i catch the chance to draw the big crater Archimedes. Its nice shadows from the walls are fantastic. Because the weather was not the best I used only my 6mm Ortho with my TMB 115/805 for 130x. I think the sketch is quite well and shows the sight by averige conditions.
Sorry that the date on the picture is false. It was the 26.July! 😉

Occultation of Jupiter

Occultation of Jupiter
Occultation of Jupiter

Hey,

I send my sketch of the “Occultation of Jupiter”

Sketch shows a moment of Jupiter by the Moon Cloak and umbrella immunity telescope eyepiece at 120x magnification. God heard my prayers! Despite the terrible weather the moon emerged from behind the clouds. The view was magnificent. Emotions reached its zenith. Sketch was made before the moon covered the planet. Unfortunately I did not see the moons of Jupiter as the light clouds hamper perception. I hope you managed to show this phenomenon :))
In addition, the nature of the country lent incredible experience.

Occultation of Jupiter by the Moon

Jupiter Occultation and Conjunction
Jupiter Occultation and Conjunction

Hi, here attached my last souvenir

Object Name (Jupiter, Moon, Venus and Hyades)
Object Type (occultation)
Location (Néoules Var France)
Date (2012 July 15th)
Media (graphite pencil for the moon, and watercolor for the dolmen sketch)

So early! I observed with a friend of mine from 3h to 5h AM local time.

Close to Néoules, we have a good place with a good sky to observe the rising of Sun, Moon and planets.

The telescope I use to sketch is a Bresser 1000/102.

The two first sketches were made in this place; the watercolour was made just after the occultation, 5 km further. How many occultation this megalithic dolmen has seen?

On the watercolor, we can see the planet Venus and perceive the Hyades open cluster with Aldebaran

That was very early but,… what a wonderful spectacle !
Kind regards
