Comet Garradd and Messier 92
Comet Garradd and Messier 92

Object Name: Comet Garradd and M92
Object Type: comet, globular gluster
Location: Cherry Springs Dark Sky Park, Pennsylvania
Date: February 3, 2012
Media: Digitally simulated chalk and white pencil on black paper.

I literally had seconds to glimpse it this morning, so my sketch cannot be accurate (9:30 UT). We were completely socked in. I waited 45 minutes for a tiny tear in the cloud cover to sweep rapidly across
Hercules. Then for another 30 minutes there was no other opportunity and I went back to bed. Now, a long wait under almost complete cloud cover makes you exceptionally well dark adapted… so I really believe it was the comet that I saw with the naked eye for a few moments as I was raising my binoculars with
shaking hands. Blue, near grey zone, altitude 2400 ft/700 m.

Hi,

May I present you my last sketch; an object everyone see everyday 🙂

Yesterday, the sun was very active, considering, I could easily see with my binoculars 10X50 three big Sun spots. I was very impressed!

Hello!
The Sun is my fawourite object to sketch that is why I am sending you this sketch, drawn 9.11.2011 at 12:20, in Ely, England.
I have used my SkyMaster 15×70 binoculars and the foil filter (Seymour Solar) which gives natural looking colors (The Sun is orange).
The conditions that day where cloudy, so I had to be patient waiting for The Sun to reappear from behind the clouds.
I have used graphite pencils and the stamps to draw it on smooth white paper. The drawing is 16 cm( 6,2 inch ) in diameter.

The Pleiades and the Moon

Messier 45 and the Moon
Messier 45 and the Moon

Object: The Pleiades (M45) and the moon
Object type: Open cluster/moon
Location: Montreal, Canada
Date: December 8th, 2011
Media: White pastel on black paper, digital retouch

I marked the date in my agenda: The beautiful Pleiades and an almost full moon side by side. Something not to be missed. And the conditions were good: no clouds and a comfortable 3°C.

My 15 X 70 binoculars were the perfect instrument for this observation as the two objects could fit within two field of view. A sketch had to be done…

A Faint Arc of Light

Lunar Eclipse - December 10, 2011
Lunar Eclipse - December 10, 2011

Aloha,

I got up at 3:50 am this morning – crystal clear skies & not too cold, maybe 50 degrees, out on my deck with my 7×50 binocular. At that time the moon looked like a 25% crescent with the remaining body visible. At 4:10 it was so lovely, just a faint SW arc of light still on the moon & the shadow a dark dusty orange. The sky became dark enough to see stars around the moon – an eerie sight. At ~4:45 the eclipse appeared complete but clouds were coming in & it was even difficult to see the outline but I could still make out nearby stars. The moon just disappeared in totality and was difficult to locate without binocular aid.
