Comments :
The moon was almost full, the sky was not dark enough, so the tail was shade off and fairly not visible.
Only a bright star could be seen in this area.
The turquoise colour of ISON comet was (R.I.P.) very nice, with a very bright dot as shown on the skectch.

Equipment : 300mm Telescope + 24mm Ultra Wide Angle eyepiece
Sketch was made with pencil on white paper while observing the comet on the road side before sunrise.
A bit of image processing was used to invert the image and give it some colour.

C/2013 R1 (Lovejoy) – November 16, 2013

Hello, here is a drawing of the comet Lovejoy, made with my Dobsonian Telescope 12. “Also visible in 8×40 binoculars, a telescope it offered a well detailed hair, including two jets very visible and 188x core composed of two very brilliant parts (?). beautiful visitor also revealed a double pretty tail, two jets obvious.

C/2013 R1 (Lovejoy) – November 21, 2013

Hey ASOD!

I got a visual observation of comet R1 (Lovejoy) this morning.
The coma was big and diffuse with a small (not stellar) false nucleus.
No tail was seen due to moonlight.
Lovejoy was easy to find in my 10 x 50 binos. Info on the sketch!
I have not seen comet Ison yet because of long periods with clouds.
I used graphite pencil on white paper and inverted in color.
I had to use 50x magn. on my telescope, higher magn. did not work much!

Hello all,

This is my first comet observation and sketch. After waiting some days for a good weather without clouds, finally i got the comet to see. It looked like a blurry smooth ball, comparable in magnitude with the stars forming the “V” in the sketch, which have an average apparent magnitude of ±5.7 and even the sun was rising, I had an impression that the comet was showing a tail.

Im just starting a blog with my observations.

The Charm of ISON

Hello ! Here is a drawing Ison (only unfortunately) made Friday morning between 6:15 ET 6:45 HL with my newton telescope 12″. Visible with binoculars 8×40, Ison revealed all its charm to the telescope, including its beautiful clear blue hair, as well as two fine jets in the queue that stretched over 3/4 of my ES 20mm, which provides a field of 1.36 ° and a magnification of 75x.
A real treat for the eyes! Strongly in December…

After the Clouds Went Away

After the clouds went away…

…comet C/2012 S1 ISON appeared glowing in the sky. Brigther after the outburst.
The tail crossed more than half of the visual field of 12×80 (4,2º), the nucleus was very bright, nearly stellar, and the coma had a strong greenish color. The part of the tail closest to the nucleus shone with different intensity, it was sharper on the left side and narrow near the coma.

ISON at the gates of dawn

The sky was really clear and pristine, relative humidity 70%.

Altought beautiful Zodiacal light shines over the east horizon, the comet was easily highlighted in the background of stars.

Comet Lemmon

In late June the comet Lemmon began to be visible to observers in the northern hemisphere, before, in the southern hemisphere, showed a long tail that has characterized this comet. Now we show only a beautiful fluorescent C2 gas coma (turquoise in the photos).
I could see for the first time on June 6, but it was the morning of the 14th when I made a small log with notes and drawing and its distance from the sun was 2 AU and 1.9 AU is Earth Cassiopeia was in in a very rich star field, about 2 ° of M52 and had already risen about 65 degrees above the horizon.

With 80x magnification is shown as a cloud discussion with poorly defined borders, its brightness was low, with the center a little more dense and down very gently outward. The tone of his luster was smooth and looked lively, not dull like galaxies. Its size would be around 3 ‘or 4’ relative to the eyepiece. With no colorfulness lost tail, but it was very nice “so that we can have known” before we leave this year (I think it does not return for another 10 years).

Jets of Halley

Hey ASOD- friends!

This is a sketch of the famous comet P/ Halley.
The comet showed some structures in the circular coma (jets), and
it was interesting to see an occultation of the nearby star to west by
the centralcondensation later!
In january 1986, comet Halley got a 2 deg. long tail and was a
fine object in binos and telescopes from Norway.
I found Halley early (8. oct.- 85), and followed it carefully all the way
on northern sky and from Tenerife in apr. – 86.
At this time I was leader of the comet- section in Norway.
The sketch was made with graphite (pencil) on white paper (inverted).

Halley’s Comet

Hey Artists!

My sketch here, shows the famous comet Halley as seen at its best from Norway.
The bright coma had a drop-form, and a halo was seen in the outer coma to west.
In my 10 x 50 binos, the tail was narrow and 2 deg. long. Info on my sketch.
Halley returns in 2061, so good luck to the younger observers!
I used colour crayons on black paper.
